Question about hotel comment sites?

I’ve traveled a lot and frequently use the discount sites like Hotwire and priceline etc. I’ve always had very good luck. As I’m looking at reservations sites for hotels now – I find myself looking at the comments other guests have left – sometimes it’s hard to sort out someone who didn’t get their way from real issues like cleanliness, and working amenities.

How much do those comments play into when you make a reservation?

a lot use trip advisor and read between the lines. I like to see age of traveler and where they are from it makes a difference
I stopped using those sites since I figured out that many of the good reviews were written by the employees and the bad ones were written by disgruntled employees or the competition.
I now only use the AAA diamonds. I know if a hotel has 4 diamonds that I’m not going to have any problems and to avoid the ones that only have 1 or 2. I know that AAA has no reason to be anything but truthful.
I will not book a place without reading the reviews. Alot of people are picky they always complain about the food and the ones for mexico always complain about the beds. That never has a play in my decision but if theres more than 3 bad reviews on cleanliness/cockroaches bad beach than I wont usually book it I love these 2 sites and it links the reviews from trip advisor
When I read reviews, what I look for is consistencies in those reviews. In other words, I look for multiple people who have the same compliment or same complaint. Anyone can have a bad experience at a good hotel or a good experience at a bad hotel. That’s why if I read 20 reviews of a hotel, and 19 say that the staff was friendly, and 1 says that the staff was rude, I go with the 19.
