Surprisingly for such a historic location, Inverness only became a city at the turn of this century and but it has been the gateway to the North of Scotland for countless centuries. It is still quite an industrial city, Inverness has prospered and running through it is the River Ness which comes from Loch Ness. It is located just below Black Isle and the Moray Firth and offers the ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas.
