scrouds asked:

do hotels pay extra for reservations booked on the national reservation lines? So if I call 1-800-days-inn, will they pay for that service, versus booking directly with the hotel? I want to know because I called the hotel direct and they gave me a run around about rack rates etc, and I called the national reservation line and easily booked my AAA discount room. I’m hoping they pay for their stupidity.

I don t understand your question.

However, it is very very often that rooms are cheaper via travel agent and travel website.

The reason is because they buy thousands of rooms to the hotel…in exchange the hotel gives huge disccount to the agent or website..and the discounts are then passed on the customers.

    The new website: Hotel Comparator

is particular y aggressive on price at the moment.

    I hope I’ve answered your questions ?!?!?!

Yes, hotel chains get charged per confirmed reservation made through their 1-800#, no matter the rate that you, the guest, booked. I would not recommend booking directly with any hotel unless you’re booking a group and talking to a sales manager. The reason is that the person you are talking to, the person who answers the phone at the majority of the hotel chains, is probably a member of the front desk staff and is extremely busy and distracted. This is especially true if your phone call is answered by a live person and not a recording first. Leave the hotel alone, go online and compare prices, you’ll find a much better deal. You may want them to pay for their stupidity, but they get the last laugh. The 1-800 will book the highest price room they can, they book what’s called from rack down. If you had gone online and done a little research you would have found a ton of better deals, including Internet booking discounts and the ability to search several different hotels at once.
