The town of Penrith is to be found in the eastern part of the Lake District, England and is situated just outside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park. Since the days of the Romans, the town has always held a strategic position on the route between England and Scotland.
Penrith is set in the Eden Valley and there are lots of things for you to see and do in the town and local area. As you would expect from its location, there are lots of hotels in Penrith that you can choose from and we’ll look at a small selection of these below.
1. The George Hotel – Is in the very heart of the town and can trace its history back over three centuries. The accommodation is comfortable and inviting and you almost seem to step back in time when you go through its main doors. It is well appointed and offers you the chance to relax and unwind as well.
2. Roundthorn Country House – It is situated on the outskirts of the town located on a hill giving you plenty of panoramic views over Penrith. The house itself is a Grade II Listed Georgian Mansion set in some well landscaped beautiful grounds with views not just over Eden Valley, but the Pennines and the Lakeland Fells. Certainly if you want somewhere special to stay for a romantic weekend then this is the hotel for you.
3. Brackenrigg Inn – This is about six miles outside Penrith and used to be an eighteenth century Coaching Inn on a clear day, there are excellent views over Ullswater. The hotel has family rooms as well as regular doubles and singles and there is the bar with its open fire where one can relax after you have spent the day exploring the area surrounding it.
4. North Lakes Hotel – Designed to look like a hunting lodge is able to reflect the surrounding areas rugged beauty. Along with it being constructed from local stone features real log fires to literally make for a warm Cumbria welcome and help you to relax after a day’s fell walking or other activities.
However this particular hotel in Penrith which is on the outskirts of the town has much to offer both couples and families. For the kids there is the Trekkers Den which has a number of activity programs they can enjoy. As for the adults there is the wellness studios and other spa facilities that they can get pampered at.
